Conference Youth Leadership Team Application
Candidates must complete the following application forms, including necessary signatures from parents and guardians. 

These forms are included in this application document: 
a. CYLT Application
b. Candidate Medical Release Form
c. Candidate Code of Conduct Form  
d. Candidate Agreement Signature Page  
e. Candidate Travel Authorization Form
f. Candidate Photo/Video Release Form

Once the application document has been submitted, these forms will be emailed to candidates to be completed and returned via email (further instructions below): 
a. Faith Form
b. References from 1 clergy and 2 laity 

To be eligible to serve on Conference Youth Leadership Team (CYLT), each candidate must complete an application in its entirety by the given deadline of May 31, 2023. 
 
Eligibility
  • Must be endorsed by your pastor or youth pastor and parent/guardian
  • Member of a local church in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky (TWK) annual conference of the United Methodist Church
  • High school student (rising 9th-12th grader)
  • CYLT members are limited to a total of three terms in office.
 
The general duties of CYLT include:
  • CYLT must be active and involved members in their local church.
  • Lead and represent the student activity in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Annual Conference.
  • Communicate regularly and respond promptly to all inquiries for information.
  • CYLT must have access to their email and group message at least once daily and more often nearing times of scheduled events.
  • Complete all assigned projects and responsibilities to the best of your ability and by assigned deadlines.  
  • Attend all required meetings, events, and conference calls, in their entirety, for their term of office.
  • Represent Tennessee-Western Kentucky Annual Conference with excellent standards of professionalism, etiquette, and public relations to promote Conference Youth events.
  • Make visits to a local church within the candidate’s district to discuss CYLT and encourage further participation of current and newcomers.
  • Have rehearsed and be ready to deliver all remarks, speeches, and scripts to the best of their ability. This includes prior practice to ensure the best possible presentation
  • Keep a clean, powerful, and positive social media presence. CYLT members will need to ensure their social media pages are of the utmost professionalism as they will represent God, their, church, the CYLT and the entire Annual Conference.

Candidacy Phases I and II

Phase I – Application and References

  • Faith Form (completed by candidate) 
  • Clergy (1) and Lay (2) References
It is mandatory that the candidate completes all forms in their entirety. Every component of the application must be filled out. Any blanks in the application will prevent the candidate from being able to submit the application. After your form is received, you will receive a "Faith Form" to fill out and email back in.

Reference letters must be submitted via e-mail. Once a candidate's application is submitted, a template reference letter will be emailed to the candidate to share with their references of choice. It is the candidate's responsibility to contact their references of choice and ask them to submit a reference letter by the May 31, 2023 deadline. There must be 1 Clergy reference and 2 Laity references. Non-relative references only.

Phase II – Virtual Interviews
 
The Conference Youth Operations Team assumes all candidates have or can get access to a webcam or mobile device for this part of the candidacy process. Candidates will be emailed regarding the date and time of their interview.
