Purpose:

SALVI's Amy High Fellowships support students and teachers of Latin who seek to develop proficiency in speaking by attending full-immersion Latin programs produced by SALVI or endorsed by it. The fellowship program was created in memory of Amy Ann High, a noted teacher and promoter of Latin and a friend of SALVI.

Eligibility:

Amy High Fellowships are for current Latin teachers and for students at least 18 years of age at the time their SALVI program begins who have graduated from high school and are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate study, and who, having progressed in Latin beyond the basic level, are planning to pursue a career teaching Latin.

Funding:

This year's fellowship is an amount of up to $1500, which must be used for tuition, room and board (where applicable) at a SALVI full-immersion Latin event, and associated travel, lodging, and incidentals. Applicants will be asked to identify the specific program to which he or she is applying. Accordingly, tuition will be fully credited; upon submission of original receipts and a copy of her/his diploma or certificate of attendance, the recipient will receive the agreed upon balance up to a maximum total award of $1500. Alternate arrangements will be available for a recipient who requires funding in advance.

Media Release:

Acceptance of the Fellowship constitutes your consent for SALVI to use your name, likeness, and review of the full-immersion Latin event in the promotion of both SALVI and the Amy High Fellowship. Upon completion of the program, your efforts to "pay it forward" and to help publicize this fellowship to future recipients, while not a condition of receiving the award, would be very much appreciated.

Number of Awards:

In this seventh year of the program, there will be one award of up to $1500 granted for use from June 1, 2024 through September 1, 2024 provided that a qualified candidate applies. It is our hope to expand the number of awards in future years.

Application Process:

The application process is completely web-based. In addition to completing this Google form, you will need to request one letter of recommendation which your referrer will also submit via Google forms. Information about the Fellowship and the application process is available on the SALVI website. Completed applications must be submitted through the SALVI website on or before 11:59 P.M. on January 20, 2024. Applicants will be notified by email and on the SALVI website no later than Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Only complete applications will be considered.

After submitting your application:

You will receive two emails: the first acknowledging receipt of your application; the second stating that the recommendation has been received and that your application is complete. Please contact us and/or your referrer if you do not receive these acknowledgements.
