"I have been spending a lot of time lately thinking about witness, about how witness itself is a kind of poetics, or poesis, which means making. By which I mean I have been wondering about how we make the world in our witnessing of it."  - Ross Gay
Join Ridgelines Teaching Artist Carolyne Meehan for the third and final 2022 installment of Witness as Study at Rhoneymeade Arboretum and Sculpture Gardens. As autumn turns we'll take time to slow down, pay attention, be still with ourselves, and find stories in the sculptures and elements of nature at Rhoneymeade. We'll be guided by Ross Gay's notion of "witness as study" as we move about the grounds, observe outer and inner movements, and consider what it means for us in this moment to witness the world.

Through several rounds of writing we will ask: How do we witness ourselves? How do we witness the world around us? And finally, how do we witness one another? Writers will have time to wonder and wander through the arboretum grounds. We will read a few poems from beloved writers together and we will gather to read some of our own writings out loud.
