All applicants must be at least 21 years old and either reside or work within the City of Lakeway. Applicants who are on probation, or who have been convicted of felonies or crimes involving moral turpitude are ineligible.
The academy is free of charge. The academy will meet once a week for 12 weeks to cover a different area of police work each week. Students must attend at least 80 percent of the classes in order to graduate.
All student applications must be completed and submitted to the Police Department in order to be considered. There are 30 openings for the 2023 academy class, therefore, not every application will be accepted. An eligibility list will be established for last minute cancellations.
If you are accepted as a student, you will receive instructions and educational materials related to the law enforcement mission of the Lakeway Police Department. As such, some of the material presented will be privileged, or confidential, in nature. Due to the sensitivity of this information, it is necessary for the Lakeway Police Department to conduct background checks to determine the suitability of these persons desiring to attend academy classes. Please answer the following questions accurately and as completely as possible. Any misrepresentation or omission of facts will be grounds for denial of admission to the academy, or if you already enrolled immediate termination from the program. A criminal history check will be made on persons enrolled in the Lakeway Police Department's Citizens Academy.
