AmeriCorps Members are individuals enrolled for a specific term of service with an AmeriCorps program. There are 75,000 AmeriCorps members in our nation.  AmeriCorps members are engaged in National Service and are not volunteers or employees. They play a unique role in a community or organization to address unmet needs. In Utica, our AmeriCorps members help people get out of poverty through housing assistance, job and education training, financial literacy and life skills instruction, veteran assistance, immigrants/refugee help, and empowerment programs for disabled youth.  We also help our affordable housing residents access community services and become self-sufficient.

Through AmeriCorps you will receive a living allowance (stipend) and may qualify for a college scholarship.  AmeriCorps provides professional education in the helping professions and is an excellent way to build your resume and work experience.  You may still collect your unemployment compensation and still serve as an AmeriCorps member.  Income from AmeriCorps is exempt from rental assistance and SNAP program. Full-time members may receive child care and health insurance.
