The Textile Studies Graduate Research Cluster invites participants to present a brief talk on their research or arts practice. The aim of the lightning talks is to build connections across disciplines and cross-pollinate innovative research and art. We would love to hear from interested graduate students, faculty, and artists in and beyond the University of Washington.
We approach the study of textiles through a variety of lenses and aim to feature as diverse an array of research and art as possible. We invite submissions from any area of study including but not limited to the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, computer science, museum studies, architecture, mathematics, and engineering.
The theme of these lightning talks is "Object Lessons". Is a textile object or practice at the center of your research? What can one textile object, whether physical, metaphysical, or literary, tell us about the history, materials, relationships, or labor involved in textiles? How does the uniqueness of this object inform how you go about your research or arts practice?
This round of lighting talks will be held virtually on Friday December 3rd at 3:00-4:30. Each presenter will have 5 minutes to present on their research or arts practice. After the presentations, we will open the floor to questions and discussions. This will be a great space to receive feedback on works in progress and we encourage submissions from presenters at all stages of research.
