Dear Families of String Students,
Your child has shown readiness to participate in the Gwynedd Square/Inglewood Orchestra! The Orchestra is the culmination of our string program. Orchestra is where we apply the skills the students have been learning in strings classes, as well as focus on skills in the curriculum that are unique to a large ensemble setting. The Orchestra is a critical aspect to your child's string instruction and musical growth. It is also where we learn invaluable skills that will set your child apart as a leader within the North Penn community through 12th grade!
Our first Orchestra rehearsal will be held Thursday, September 21, in the Inglewood gymnasium and continue each Thursday. Rehearsals begin promptly at 8AM and students must arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 AM in order to tune and prepare. Please use the back parking lot and students will enter the building through the gym door
(Door #11). Rehearsals will end at 9 AM and Gwynedd Square students will be bused back to school in time for the beginning of homeroom. I will be arriving at Inglewood by 7 AM for students who may need to arrive earlier than 7:30.
Students should come to rehearsal prepared with their music, instrument, and pencil. Successive rehearsals will be held each Thursday morning school is in session, and the students will have performance opportunities in multiple events throughout the year.
With a limited amount of time available for preparation, it is necessary for your child to make every effort to attend 100% of the rehearsals. Proficient preparation of all assigned Orchestra music is expected, as is weekly attendance at scheduled string classes, rehearsals, and concerts. All students are assessed prior to each concert to determine performance readiness and will only perform the pieces they have mastered at performance level. Students who gather two unexcused absences (not attending rehearsal but is in school), and/or consistently misses class will have limited participation in our performances and may possibly be removed from the ensemble until they show they are ready to handle the responsibilities and expectations of Orchestra. If a student is unable to play an instrument due to injury or other reason (broken string, broken instrument, etc.), they should still attend rehearsals and classes at school so they may continue learning what is being taught. If students are absent from school, they will be excused from rehearsal. Please be sure to email Mrs. Feliciani about any absences so accurate attendance can be taken.
Transportation to each morning rehearsal must be provided by the parents/guardians as buses are not available for early morning rounds. Transportation back to Gwynedd Square after Orchestra will be provided by a school bus. If school is cancelled or scheduled to start late on a Thursday due to inclement weather, Orchestra is AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED for that day.
