Student Responsibilities
• The student must be enrolled in the class for which the tutoring is being requested.
• Tutoring will be conducted online through GoBoard/ Google Hangouts for the Spring 2021 semester.
• A TRIO participant may receive up to two hours of tutoring a week. Additional hours must be approved by the TRIO Director.
• The student must attend tutoring sessions regularly and notify the TRIO office at least 24 hours in advance if needing to cancel a tutoring session. Canceling without a 24 hour notice will result in a No Show.
• Missing more than TWO assigned sessions without approval will result in the termination of tutoring services. For mandatory tutoring sessions, the student must meet with their Academic Advisor and the Academic Support Coordinator after they miss TWO assigned sessions.
• The student is expected to attend class, read assignments, take notes, and do all assignments prior to each tutoring session.
• The student should be prepared for the tutoring session by bringing their textbook and all related materials, and having specific questions in mind.
• The tutor does not “do” the work for the student, but assists with specific questions.
• Students should utilize instructors’ office hours. A student’s instructor can be a valuable resource for a variety of reasons. Instructors can make course objectives clear, explain concepts in class, and often provide a copy of the course/book materials for the tutors use.
• Students must meet with their TRIO Advisor after attending 5 tutoring sessions (it is the responsibility of the student to schedule the appointment).
• In addition, students must attend the minimum required meetings with their assigned advisor (3 times per semester).
• Student must complete the mid-semester and the end of semester tutoring evaluations.
• Students should also use additional tutoring services such as NetTutor, study groups, walk-in tutoring, the Learning Commons Tutoring center, and the Writing Center.
