Title & description: Impact Renewables: How should companies’ renewable energy strategies evolve to consider social and environmental justice?
As companies begin to see the inextricable link between social justice and environmental sustainability, their renewable energy strategies will need to integrate both the impacts and opportunities from a climate justice lens. Should renewable energy projects be focused solely on financial return, or should they be focused on “emissionality” and cleaning up the dirtiest grids in communities disproportionately impacted by air pollution? What innovative procurement strategies can support a just transition for former fossil fuel industry workers? How can local communities be supported and land use concerns be considered in clean energy procurement? Does policy play a role in a just transition to a low-carbon economy? This conversation will explore the ways businesses can incorporate holistic non-financial impacts into their renewable strategies.
