Play, Pint & Pie one act festival - ESL Theater
Enter Stage Left Theater, the Resident Theater Company of The Hopkinton Center for the Arts, is pleased to announce auditions for its third annual Play, Pint and a Pie, an evening of new one- act play shorts to be held on the evening of Saturday, August 26, 2023. This outdoor festival showcases 7 plays selected from 112 submissions from playwrights nationally and internationally, and has been the hottest ticket around for the last two Summers running. Read a description of the selected plays and casting info at the bottom of this sheet.

WHO: Actors ages 16 - 65

WHEN: Auditions will occur on Monday & Tuesday June 26-27 @ 7 pm at the HCA (98 Hayden Rowe St, Hopkinton). If you are unable to audition in person, you must submit a video recording of your audition by June 26th. Send a shareable link of your recorded audition via email to: esltheather@hopartscenter.org 

WHAT: Actors should prepare a short monologue to perform or may be asked to read from one of the festival scripts.

REHEARSALS: Flexible. If an actor is offered a role and accepts, each Director will work out a rehearsal schedule that accommodates vacations, work, etc. Approximately 4-5 rehearsals plus tech week.

Mr. M's Slaughterous Thoughts (comedy) by Ryan Armstrong.  Directed by Gene Houk.
An over-enthusiastic Shakespearean actor is determined to make an impression, despite the Director's best efforts.

The Next Ivan Sharansky (comedy) by Jim Geoghan.  Directed by Paul Champlin,
Two seasoned actors bemoan the passing of the greatest corpse actor
1 man and 1 woman (middle aged to senior)

Florida (drama) by Steve Doloff.  Directed by Mary Scarlata-Rowe
A homeless couple reminisce about their time in Florida and the prospects of a return, as one of them grapples with the onset of dementia.
1 man and 1 woman, upper middle-aged to senior

Midge (conceptual/comedy/drama) by Adrienne LaValley.  Directed by Paul Champlin.
Despite multiple, determined attempts, a woman is prevented from passing through a door by a  military guard, and for good reason.
1 younger man and 1 older woman

A Much Better Deal (drama) by Stephen Feldman.  Directed by Dawn Anderson.
An attempted armed robbery is prevented when the targeted victims employ empathy and problem-solving to negotiate a solution to the would-be thief's dilemma.
1 teenage male, 1 young male, 1 middle-aged male, and 1 middle-aged woman

Arm Chair Critic (comedy) by Nicky Denovan,  Directed by Dawn Anderson.
A newspaper editor confronts his theater critic when something seems amiss regarding his most recent review.
2 middle-aged to older men (gender flexibility)

Art (comedy) by Steve Martin. Directed by Mary Scarlata-Rowe
Three elementary school art judges are at odds as they attempt to arrive at consensus on the winning pieces.
3 women (any age). There are brief appearances by two 8-9 year-old girls.
