Dear Parents and Guardians,

When your child is learning outdoors, or is engaged in learning with a practical focus which may not necessarily result in a piece of written work being produced, we use a piece of software called 'Tapestry' to record your child's active learning through "observations". This is done by taking photographs which are then linked with the EYFS curriculum through Tapestry.

Tapestry has the facility to share your child's learning with you, so that each time an each time an observation is made and your child is tagged in a photograph, you will be notified by an email about the new observation and then be able to view it.

However, often when children are learning in EYFS they do not do so in isolation and do so alongside other children. This means that photographs and observations may often contain images of other children along with your own child and a comment in relation to the learning of the group. For example, if an observation and photograph has two children in it, then the observer may comment that X and Y both enjoyed counting with the dinosaurs and could put them in order of size etc. In cases such as these, both parents of the children in the photos will be able to view and comment on the photograph and observation.

Although this is the case for observations involving more than one child, you will be the only person to be able to view your whole child's learning journal.

As I am sure you will understand, in order for us to change the settings to allow you to full access Tapestry with regular updates regarding your child's learning, we need consent from EVERY child's parents/guardians that observations containing images of their child and information about learning may be viewed by other parents.

If we do not receive consent from every child's parent, we can only offer you access to the observation with the image blurred so no children can be identified including your own child. Please can you fill in the following questions to give permission by Friday 10th July, as I am unable to activate any of the accounts until I have all the permission forms completed.

Can you please include your email address so this can be used to link the tapestry account to your child and you will also be able to receive updates regarding observations of your child. This will also allow you to put observations on to your child's account. If your child already has Tapestry with their pre-school setting, please tick the box to indicate this and use the same email address that you currently have linked to the account.
