Choral and Voice Symposium Sign Up!
The Piedmont Youth Chorus will host a free audition symposium for high school students interested in continuing their choral and vocal education in college. On February 3rd and 4th 2023, at Salem College. This free event will take place over two days. Students will learn about choral singing and vocal performance in college. Each day will focus on music education, audition prep, and a mock audition with a local collegiate professor. For more information, contact Lindsey Allen at lallen@piedmontopera.org or call 336.725.7101. Registration is required.

February 3rd: 6 PM to 7:30 PM
Seminar One: Music Theory, and Sight Singing, and Educational Prep:
Students will look at practice examples of Music Theory, Aural Skills, and Sight Singing examples like what they may encounter at their auditions, and entrance exams in college. For some this is the most daunting part of auditioning for a choir or music school – and they will learn helpful tools to empower them for success.

Seminar Two: Audition and Music Preparedness:
Students will learn how to prepare their music for an audition, including how to interact with the pianist, and audition panel. They will dive deep into the music and find ways to enhance their performance. There will also be a discussion about performance anxiety, and pre-audition preparedness.

February 4th: 10 AM to 1 PM
Seminar Three: Mock Auditions:
UNCSA's Phyllis Pancella joins us as a masterclass technician for the Mock Audition. Students will have the opportunity to audition in front of their peers in a safe environment. They will combine all the tools they learned in the seminar and apply it to real life audition. The students will be encouraged to dress and prepare their music like it was a real audition.

The Piedmont Youth Chorus is the educational arm of Piedmont Opera.
