Introduction to power analysis via simulation in R
The goal of this webinar is to provide a functional introduction to performing power analyses via simulation. Power analyses are vital tools that can provide an estimate of sample sizes required for a given experiment. There are several ways to conduct power analysis, and many good examples provided by packages and software. The benefit of simulations over these other methods is flexibility - tailoring predictions to specific experimental setups. Participants in this webinar are expected to be familiar with the R programming language and fundamental statistical tests but are not expected to have prior knowledge of power analyses or simulations. Participants will be guided through the code needed to run their own simulations and are encouraged to bring their own experiment plans for live, interactive analysis.

What is your career stage?

*

How comfortable are you with conducting your own statistical analyses?

*
What sorts of tests do you typically perform or are interested in learning about power analysis for?
*

How much experience do you have using the R statistical programming language?

*

Are you familiar with for loops and ifelse statements?

*

Have you ever conducted a power analysis or employed other methods to estimate sample sizes prior to conducting an experiment? If so, what techniques have you used?

*

Are you aiming to learn about power analysis in general or do you have a specific experiment for which you would like to estimate sample sizes?

If so, what sort of data (e.g. continuous, discrete, count) will you be working with?

*

How many factors are you hoping to include in your analysis?

*

We aim to provide the most useful learning experience for participants and would like to analyse your data live as part of the course. Would you be willing to share a data set, dummy or otherwise, with us prior to attending?

If so, please email your data set to admin@insectwelfare.com alongside a short description of your study, hypotheses and intended statistics. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to analyse your data but will do our best.
