The tour of Springtown Farmden will take place August 13, 2022 from 9:30-11:30 AM. The farmden is located at
387 Springtown Road in New Paltz, NY . Parking can be in the driveway at this address as well as the driveway on the other (north) side of the woodshed, the street, or the DEC boat launch parking lot a couple of hundred feet north of here on the opposite side of the road.
•Please arrive on time, bringing with you proof of COVID vaccination and a mask.
•Bring whatever you need for rain or sun.
•Our septic system has limited capacity, so toilet facilities will not be available.
•This tour is limited to 20 people so registration is required. There will be a waiting list, so if you decide you will not be coming, please let me know immediately so someone else can take your place.

ABOUT ME, LEE REICH:
I dove into gardening decades ago, initially with one foot in academia, as an agricultural scientist with the USDA and Cornell University, and one foot in the field, the organic field. I eventually left academia to lecture, consult, and and write. I have authored a number of gardening books and, for 30 years, wrote a syndicated gardening column for Associated Press. Although it’s been decades since I dove into gardening, my enthusiasm for the soil and for cultivating plants has not waned.
Science and an appreciation of natural systems underpin my work. My goal is to get more people to grow more food sustainably and organically.
ABOUT MY FARMDEN:
It’s been many years since my original property of 3/4 of an acre, with a garden, was expanded to two-and-a-half acres, at which point, with a lot more plants, it became almost a farm. So I call it a farmden: More than a garden, less than a farm. My property is now home to a wide array of common and uncommon fruits, various nuts, vegetables, a meadow for beauty and hay, and some ornamental plants and lawn. A greenhouse, ducks, and shiitakes round out the picture. Besides providing a year ‘round supply of fruits and vegetables, my farmden has an educational mission and is a test site for innovative techniques in soil management and in growing fruits and vegetables.
