Spoken Word Youth Takeover Stages - The Poetry Society and Chelsea Theatre
On Saturday 21 August 2021, The Poetry Society and Chelsea Theatre will host a youth led Spoken Word event on an outdoor stage. This will be presented on Chelsea Plaza, outside Chelsea Theatre on World’s End, as part of the Kensington + Chelsea Festival which runs 21 June to 31 August 2021.

This Open Call allows young people who would like to perform and young people who would like to be on the selection committee (programming panel) to add their details. The proposed extracts of performances can have been developed through a school, drama club or independently at home. Applications are open to anyone who lives, works or learns in Kensington and Chelsea. (Each application should have one person who is linked to the borough in this way) or anyone one who is or who has been in care in any borough.

Programming Panel - The Poetry Society and Chelsea Theatre are looking for up to six young people aged 16 years up to 25 years to form the programming panel to put together an afternoon of theatre performances, chosen from the proposals that are put forward through this Open Call. The panel will meet on Zoom.

Creative Work –  The Poetry Society and Chelsea Theatre are looking for Spoke Word based work to be showcased on stage on the afternoon of Saturday 21 August 2021. These can be a short extract from a a written text, a devised piece or something else Spoken Word related. This can be any length up to 15 minutes per performance. Participants need to be aged 14 and upwards, maximum age is 25 years. If you are aged between 14 and 16 years, you will need to attend on the day with a parent/carer. The performance takes place outside on a stage. Maximum number of performers is six per submission. The content needs to be suitable for all ages but does not need to have been created for any particular age group. For example, it could be an extract of a piece from a piece written for adults as long as the section that you are performing does not contain content that is unsuitable for children. The selected participants will meet on the day of the performance as due to Covid-19 restrictions there is no dress rehearsal in advance.

If you are interested in either opportunity, please complete the form. Thank you so much. Your information is held in accordance with GDPR regulations.
