Piano Teaching Artist Job Application
ComMUSICation is seeking a Piano Teaching Artist to teach small group piano lessons onsite at 868 Sherburne Ave., Saint Paul. The Piano Teaching Artist (TA) works in collaboration with the Music Director (MD) to support the development of CMC youth.

ComMUSICation’s (CMC) mission is to amplify young people’s voices and cultivate skills for success through equitable access to music, collaboration, and opportunity. Founded in 2013, ComMUSICation teaches skills for success through music-making to youth from Saint Paul’s Frogtown, East Side and North End neighborhoods. Our high-quality and intensive music programs are built on the belief that every young person, regardless of background, deserves the opportunity to be in a safe and caring environment where they are free to express themselves, can define their future, and change the world.  

Responsibilities
Teach weekly small group piano lessons, incorporating youth choice and voice through repertoire choices, songwriting/composition or improvisation
Select appropriate piano repertoire for students based on factors such as level, skills, objectives
Lead piano students during CMC performances in collaboration with the MD
Meet monthly with MD
Manage and report attendance to MD
Communicate with families of piano students
Maintain organization in rehearsal spaces

May also include the following depending on interest:
Accompany CMC Performance Choir in dress rehearsals and performances
Teach Crescendo, a preparatory music class for youth grades K-3

Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching piano to youth ages 8-12 (grades 3-6)
Experience in education or youth development
Passion for social activism through music

Requirements
Reliable transportation
A completed background check
Proof of a COVID-19 vaccination

Compensation
Small group lessons (two youth per half hour) will be compensated at a rate of $40/hr.
