YOUTH PETITION FOR SAFE MOBILITY IN APAC
Realising a more feminine transport system in our town means creating a system that can sustain everyone. That responds to the travel and safety needs of children, girls, women, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. However, access to safe public transport options is threatened by the possibility of violence. Unsafe roads and fear of diverse forms of violence limit the meaningful enjoyment of education, work, and public life.
We are calling upon decision-makers to urgently rethink streets as feminist spaces that guarantee women and girls an equal right to movement without the fear of experiencing uninvited verbal and physical attacks from taxi touts, Boda Boda riders, fellow pedestrians, and passengers. Laws and policies should be revised to improve our everyday experiences on the roads and public spaces because road traffic crashes are as important as other public health threats like Covid-19 and HIV/AIDs.
By signing this petition, you confirm that there's a need for urgent action to realize a transport system that responds to women's rights, and laws that protect us from abuse, violence, harassment, and intimidation. A safe city for women is a safe city for everyone. #BeRoadSmartUG #ClaimingOurSpace
