APPLICATION FORM, 2023-2024


A series of awards will be granted to academic staff that have taught in the current academic year, 2023-24. The awards will be granted based on the criteria below that reflect the University goals with particular emphasis on student-centered learning and innovation in higher education teaching. 

Application Criteria:
Submissions should demonstrate how your activities contribute to a substantial number of the dimensions below:

(a) you are available to students; interact effectively with students beyond the classroom (i.e. office hours, advising etc);
(b) you are helpful to, supportive of and take a personal interest in students; address individual student needs;
(c)  you use creative or innovative instructional techniques that promote the active participation of students;
(d) you utilize an interdisciplinary teaching approach and implement instructional activities that build connections between different fields of study / disciplines;
(e) you demonstrate your enthusiasm for your subject and deliver content in a way that motivates students; 
(f) you inspire confidence and support students sense of purpose in relation to their studies and career aspirations;
(g) you organize and present content in ways that interest and stimulate students;
(h) you inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning through your teaching;
(i) you engage and inspire students in independent, critical and original thinking;
(k) you create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment for all students regardless of differences and special educational needs;
(l) you help students connect and integrate with University and campus community;

Any faculty member, part-time or full-time that has taught in conventional or distance learning programs of study in the academic year 2023-2024 is eligible to apply.

Interested applicants or faculty members who have been nominated, should submit this Application Form by June 1, 2024.

Provide a statement (up to 750 words) articulating your teaching philosophy and methods used to achieve your educational goals. The statement should include evidence that demonstrate how your activities contribute to the nomination criteria outlined above. *
Provide a link to the e-learning platform (Learn or LMS) to a course you think is indicative of your course organization (incl. course outline, learning activities, resources etc.) *
Provide a link to an online lecture recording, if available, that represents your teaching delivery quality, enthusiasm and class motivation.
Provide the names and registration numbers of up to two students of yours that you believe will be supportive of your application and will be able to explain the ways in which you supported the teaching process, if asked (Not mandatory for faculty members who have been nominated by students)
Evidence
It is noted that further to the information provided below, the Evaluation Committee will review the following:

a. Exams, course outline, other course materials
b. Faculty / course assessments completed by students.
c. Recommendations from students and other faculty members, colleagues.
d. Review of online lectures (if applicable)
e. Review of moodle (learning platform) setup and use of available tools and activities.
