Fall 2024  -  Spring 2025 GiGS Mentor (Graduate Students) Application
Getting into Graduate School (GiGS) is a collaborative partnership between the Office for Graduate Diversity (OGD), and the Graduate Assembly (GA) whose ultimate goal is to encourage and prepare undergraduate UC Berkeley students to select, apply, and enroll in graduate and professional schools. By engaging key staff and graduate student mentors with motivated undergraduates, we hope undergraduates leave the mentoring program with a better understanding of what the process entails and are inspired to pursue academic careers and create change in the future.

GiGS is open to all students, but is dedicated to assisting first-generation, historically underrepresented and undocumented students. Mentees are UC Berkeley juniors and seniors who work with graduate student mentors throughout the academic year to learn about graduate school, complete graduate application materials, and develop goals for post graduation plans. In addition to graduate student mentorship, GiGS mentees attend the weekly GiGS Sociology 198, 1 unit, P/NP on Fridays from 1PM-3PM

As a GiGS mentor you may be working with 1-2 first generation college students who are unfamiliar with the path to graduate study. Mentors meet with mentees at least 3 times per semester, maintain responsive email correspondence with mentees, and may be called upon to participate in a classroom panel discussion. Thus, graduate students provide a holistic mentoring experience to encompass more than simply academic advice. Mentors are expected to be available for at least one hour weekly for possible virtual office hours with their mentees.

Participating mentors will receive a $500 stipend per semester, which will be paid upon successful completion of their mentoring assignments.

Deadline to apply: Friday, August 9, 2024 at 5pm

**THIS OPPORTUNITY IS NOT OPEN TO GRADUATE STUDENTS WHO WILL BE ON FILING FEE STATUS IN EITHER SEMESTER**
