Call for Artists: 17th Annual Festival of Dance & Music (Weekend 2 - Mixed Program)

The 17th Annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance & Music seeks dance companies to perform for the 2023 festival as part of the Mixed Program held at Dance Mission, April 3-9, 2023.

The 17th CubaCaribe Festival will consist of two different weekends of dance and music performances. The curatorial vision for the festival will be Re unión. After a few years of not being able to gather to share we realize even more the importance of physically coming and being together. Dance and Music serve as Freedom, belonging, and Joy for individuals and cultures and communities.

Reunión/Gathering
Gathering- gathering can be a noun or a verb.
A coming together of people in a group (as for social, religious, or political purposes)

In traditional African religion the community is the most important part of someone's life. This community is made up of people who remember and share the same traditions. The individual only exists within the community and separation from it is sometimes worse than death. In Africa, music is a social activity in which almost everyone participates.

The Mixed Program will be held the second weekend of the festival and will consist of 3-4 shows from Friday – Sunday, April 3-9, 2023.

Requirements:
We are seeking dance companies (of 6 or more dancers) to create original choreography derived from or rooted in Caribbean Diaspora. Live music is preferred but not required. Work must fit with this year’s curatorial vision, Reunión/Gathering.

Accepted companies will receive a $2,500 award.
Only six dance companies will be accepted.
Juried by CubaCaribe Artistic Director, Ramón Ramos Alayo.
