Workshop schedule:
Tues. Feb. 27, 1-3pm: Trade Publishing Fundamentals (with Sarena & Sasha Nanua)
This workshop will act as an introduction for students who are looking into traditionally publishing their work. It will focus on the steps to finding a literary agent and publishing house to secure a book deal. It will also focus on how marketing and publicity works at a publishing house, and how authors can market themselves. We will also delve into how publishing has changed in the age of social media.
Thurs. Mar. 14, 1-3pm: Self-Publishing Fundamentals (with Bernice Santos)
What are the next steps after completing your manuscript? With various routes to showcasing written works, many authors are opting for literary independence through self-publishing. This workshop offers an overview of self-publishing as a potential avenue to authorship. Here, you’ll gain insight into the process, understand financial considerations, set realistic goals and expectations, and learn about opportunities in independent publishing.
Tues. Mar. 26, 3-5pm: Editing Craft Fundamentals
This workshop will allow students to peer review each other's work and practice the self-revision process. Students can bring any type of creative work (pre-prepared) at a maximum length of two pages. We will share our editing process, how we work with beta readers, and take students step-by-step through the editorial process that exists at traditional publishing houses.
