Title: Mentoring Matters: Helping New Teachers Thrive

Date: October 25, 2021

Time: 10:00 am -12:00 pm

Speaker: Clare Ringwall, M.Ed., High School Dean of Faculty, Innovation Academy Charter School, Tyngsboro, MA, AthenaK12

Description: The first year of teaching is a time of tremendous learning and adjustment, whether the staff member is new to a school or new to the profession. As with students, teachers who are supported by skilled mentors are more likely to thrive during that first year and return for a second year with increased confidence, skill, and joy. Developing SEL competencies including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making are all integral to a successful mentor and mentee relationship. In this Webinar we will explore what mentoring is, and isn't, and how best to create a mutually beneficial relationship where both mentee and mentor learn from and with each other as they engage in the important and difficult work of teaching well and tending the SEL needs of both the adults and students in their school community.
