Science Slam Canada Application 2024 - May 26
Welcome to Science Slam Canada!

This form is to apply for our all ages virtual science slam show happening on Sunday, May 26 (4 pm - 6pm PT, 7 pm - 9 pm ET).

What is a Science Slam?

Based on the format of a poetry slam, a science slam is a competition where presenters gather to share science. They have five minutes to present on any science topic without the use of a slideshow and are judged based on communication skills, audience impact, and scientific content. Props and creativity are encouraged!

Each Slammer will be given 5 minutes to present a science topic, and using props, poetry, song, or other creative media are both welcome and encouraged! As this is a VIRTUAL science slam, we do allow PowerPoints that have PICTURES or animations with minimal text. Please check in with us if you have any questions. At the end of the event, each Slammer will receive a score from our judges, a mix of specialists in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) related fields and communication specialists.

Slammers will be judged on three criteria: 1) Scientific content, 2) Communication skills, and 3) Audience engagement with the focus on their ability to communicate science in an engaging, entertaining, and concise way.

In order to be considered as a presenter for Science Slam Canada, please complete this application by May 12.
