Bussing
My students ride the bus:
*
Bussing
There is an increasing concern about the lack of appropriate behavior by students who ride school buses. Appropriate behavior is directly related to bus safety as distractions interfere with the driver's focus on the road.

We, at Wynot Public Schools, consider riding the bus a privilege and one that can be denied if student and driver safety are effected.

Please see Transportation Guidelines in the Wynot Public Schools Handbook for further guidelines and due process of disciplinary action if needed.

Please review the following rules then initial that you have read the bus safety guidelines.

Absences

It is crucial at students attend school every day possible. We ask that you make appointments on days when school is not in session. This is not always possible. We request notice of student absence with a parent signature or email.

Planned Absence: (SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND OTHER SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS):

At least two (2) days prior to an absence, parents should notify the office via signed written note, email or phone call.

Students will pick up a make-up slip from the office, then advise all teachers of intended absence by filling out the make-up slip with all teachers which will include all assignments due and their due dates. Students will fill out the make-up slip during their allotted class time prior to intended absence.

The make up slip will be turned into the counselor (or principal when counselor is unavailable) prior to the absence.

The counselor will follow up with students and teachers upon return to ensure assignments were completed.

Unplanned Absence:
 (Illness or Emergency)

Parents call the office (357-2121) or email at jennifer.schmitz@wynotpublicschools.org before 8:00AM.

Inform the office (by 8:00AM) if you want your child’s assignments collected and if so the easiest way these assignments can reach you.

A make up slip will be filled out by teachers with assignments and when they are due.

The students should come to the School Office between 7:30 - 7:50 AM or immediately upon returning to school.

The counselor will follow up with students and teachers upon return to ensure assignments were completed.

Unexcused absence policy:

Students should make every possible effort to attend class on a regular daily basis. Attendance is recorded each period of the day.

An unexcused absence is defined as any absentee that the parent/guardian has authorized yet does not conformed to the excused absence as defined.

Students will be allowed two(2) days unexcused absences per semester in which the student can make up their work with no loss of credit.

After two (2) days of unexcused absences the student’s parents/guardians may be called in for a conference to determine how the situation might be corrected.

Make-up time, suspension from extra-curricular activities, loss of credit, or other appropriate actions determined by the administration could result after the accumulation of more than two (2) days unexcused absences.

Excessive Absenteeism

Students may be absent from class no more than nine (9) times per class per semester for non-curricular purposes, this includes both excused and unexcused absences.

Once a student has accumulated five (5) total absences and again at seven (7) total absences parents/guardians will be contacted by the Principal.

Excessive absences will be dealt with by the administration. If a student exceeds the limit of nine (9) times per class per semester or nine (9) absences per semester per class he/she has two options:

●Option 1: Remain in class but NOT earn credits.

●Option 2: File a written appeal to the absence panel requesting an “extension of absences”.

○Should the request be denied, an appeal may then be made to the Board of Education who would hold a “hearing” at a time mutually agreed upon by both parties.  The student would be reinstated pending the decision of the Board.

○Either appeal must be made jointly(parent/guardian and student)and presented within seven (7) days of violation notice or seven (7) days after the absence panel’s denial.  The granting of semester credits is at stake.

○A denial of credits results if appeals to the administration and Board of Education are unsuccessful.

The following form can be found online at wynotpublicschools.org. Under Menu, Handbooks, 5-12 Handbook, page 15.

Please initial that you have read the absence policy.

If you arrive after 7:45am, it is considered an absence.

Please initial that you have read the tardy policy.

Internet and Email Access Permission by Parents

The school will offer your child limited access to the internet and an electronic email account. The internet is a collection of thousands of interconnected computer networks. The vast amount of information contained within the internet's libraries can provide valuable learning opportunities for students.

Establishing an email will allow your child to participate in distance learning activities, communication with teacher and other students, ask questions of and consult with experts and locate specific material to meet the needs of educational projects.

If you child is a minor (under age 18), your authorization is needed before your child may use these resources.

A filtering system is in place to prevent access to certain unacceptable sites on the Internet. However, it is important to understand that no solution is perfect and we cannot guarantee that students will only have access to educational materials. Ultimately, parents/guardians are responsible for setting and conveying the standards their child should follow. To that end, the School District supports and respects each family's right to decide whether or not to authorize Internet and email access.

As the parent or guardian of this student, I have read the regulations for student use of computers, technology, and the internet both here and in the handbook. I understand that this access is designed for educational purposes and the School District has taken precautions to eliminate controversial material. I also recognize, however, that is it impossible for the School District to restrict access to all controversial materials and I will not hold the District responsible for materials acquired on the network. Further, I accept full responsibility for supervision if and when my child's use is not in a school setting.

By typing my name as an electronic signature, I hereby give permission to issue a user account for my child and certify that the information contained on this electronic form is true and correct.
