CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:
As popular music education continues to establish a foundation of methods and processes, engaging teachers and learners in authentic practices is important. As well, giving learners the choice of authentic participation in alternate ways of musicking in schools is paramount. This edited collection will examine a number of areas related to approaches and applications within popular music education from a Canadian perspective. We are seeking to feature and amplify viewpoints from a diverse Canadian audience related to popular music education practices in Canada in the following (but not limited to) areas:
Beat-making
Contemporary Voice
Performance Techniques
Production/Recording
Rehearsal Techniques
Roles of Instruments in Popular Music
Songwriting/Composition
Traditional Canadian Folk Music Approaches
Informal Learning Approaches
Inuit, Metis, and First Nation Indigenous Perspectives
The value of Popular Music Education
Authentic use of Popular Music in the Classroom
Authentic Approaches to Popular Music in Instrumental Music
Cultural Perspectives
We invite contributions focusing on practice, teaching philosophy, and/or teaching habits within K - 12 and higher education settings. We would like this book to be valuable for in-service teaching professionals, teacher trainers, and scholars. It will be a mix of scholarly articles and practical applications for teachers. This collection will be edited by Steve Giddings and Dr. Darren Hamilton.
Abstracts/Proposals consisting of 250 words are due December 22, 2023 with notice of acceptance by February 1, 2024. Selected completed essays of 1500 - 2500 words will be due April 19, 2024, with an anticipated publication date early fall 2024. Currently, we plan on publishing the book with Steve’s Music Room Publishing.
