News Writer Application — Her Campus UFL Spring 2023

News Writer responsibilities + expectations:
• Must meet all deadlines: Writing 1-2 timely news articles per week and submitting pitches on time
• Ability to pitch and write originally reported news articles (can be campus/local news or a national news event/issue localized to the UF/Gainesville community).
• Ability to follow formatting, grammar, style and photo guidelines
• Must have a passion for magazine and news-feature writing and exceptional writing/grammar/AP Style skills
• Must maintain communication with editor and Co-EICs, especially in case of emergencies/extenuating circumstances
• Positive attitude, strong time-management skills, enthusiasm for accepting constructive criticism and participating in brainstorming sessions, meetings and workshops
• Previous writing or editorial experience is required (i.e. campus or high school newspaper, other print or online publications)

News Writers may also have opportunities to assist with social media (IG Story, Twitter) coverage of events.

As a writer for Her Campus UFL, you must be available to write (at least) one timely story per week. You will be expected to promote the nationwide brand by adhering to the national level standards and requirements and participating in Her Campus UFL campaigns and events — as well as being an active member of Her Campus UFL (attending and participating in weekly meetings as well as other Her Campus UFL events).
