Dear Family,

The AVID Elective Program is a college-preparatory course that prepares students in the academic middle for admission to a four-year college or university. Students take an AVID Elective course throughout high school that provides them with the skills needed to be successful in advancing academically with the ultimate goal of attending college. For more than 30 years, AVID has been instrumental in preparing students for success in higher education.

Parents, your support for your child’s academic achievement is crucial. Parents are expected to support their child by partnering with the AVID Elective teachers through regular communication and help check for an organized binder with agenda, Cornell notes and Tutorial Request Forms weekly. Parents also encourage their child to take rigorous courses, college preparatory exams, and to participate in community service, extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities.

Tutoring will be available before and after school, from college tutors to ensure that your child is successful in their classes. AVID provides students with the opportunity to develop rigor, facilitate small groups and collaborate with their peers to accomplish set goals.
