Each member may propose only one special session per year. All proposers and panelists must be current South Central Modern Language Association members at the time of submission. Panel organizers must confirm with panelists that they have joined the association/renewed their membership before submitting the panel proposal form.

Completed Special Session proposals should include only those panelists who have agreed to read at the convention.

No panelist may read more than one academic paper or present literary work in more than one creative writing session at the convention. Members presenting their own literary work in a creative writing session may also deliver an academic paper at the conference. No member may act as chair or as secretary of more than one session at the annual conference. For special sessions only, chairs may also read papers in their own sessions.

Please avoid pairing the same colleagues on more than a single panel and appearing on closely related panels. We strongly encourage the representation of several institutions on a single panel.

Special Sessions do not repeat from year to year. A new proposal must be submitted each year. Proposals for special sessions are refereed by the South Central Modern Language Association Program Committee. Special Sessions that do not duplicate permanent sessions are encouraged.

The priority deadline is February 28, 2024. Late submissions may be accepted for evaluation, provided there is room in the program. Selected panels will be announced in March 2024. Panel organizers should inform panelists that their panel has been accepted after receiving confirmation of this from the SCMLA office.
