Thanks for considering being a mentor for a UCI student team participating in the Sustainability Challenge.
The Sustainability Challenge, part of the Hacking Student Success series, is a business competition at UCI put on by the ANTrepreneur Center. You can learn more about the competition here: https://antrepreneur.uci.edu/sustainability/
We started with 39 teams that formed ideas around sustainability, and they made video pitches. Judges picked the top 20 to move into the semi-finals, and those teams gave live pitches of their ideas. The top 5 teams received $5,000, and then work on their ideas over summer and fall and compete for a $20,000 grand prize in December. The other 15 teams received $1,000 and are encouraged to compete in a wildcard pitch event in September, where the winner will earn a spot to compete in the finals.
Over the summer, our goal is to match up teams with mentors to help them further develop their ideas. That’s where we need your help.Â
This survey will help us best match you with a team.
The commitment really depends on the time you have to give. We would like mentors to be available to meet with teams at a minimum of once a month. But some mentors might want to meet more frequently.
Mentoring can be done in person or virtual. Virtual usually is easier to accommodate schedules.
If you don’t have specific domain expertise in sustainability, that’s okay, as many teams also need support and mentorship in developing their business models, products, pitches, etc.Â
Thanks in advance for your time!
