TRP note countability test
Welcome to the TRP note countability test.

I've spent considerable amounts of time studying all these types of unconventional singing techniques, so I feel uniquely qualified to put together a test that examines your note countability perception. Since all clips in this quiz will be mine, I am 100% sure of the origin of the notes, so answers are not debatable and you can simply test your skills in an objective way.

You may have heard some of the clips before, but I could have re-recorded them with different techniques for this purpose. Don't rely on anything you have heard previously. I made sure you can only rely on yourself.

This test will examine your skills in determining whether most commonly contested types of notes are countable or not.

Topics examined will be inhaled vs exhaled notes, overtones vs true 6th/7th octave notes, pitch shifted vs real notes and a combination of all.

This test is meant for everyone, beginner and experienced notewatchers alike.

Good luck with the test and post your results!

Note production
First, let's determine how well you identify exhaled vs inhaled whistle tones. As the name suggests, 6th octave notes and above can be produced via whistle register (exhaling) or inverse phonation (inhaling). Do you know what to listen for when it comes to determining inhaled/exhaled notes? Let's see!
