As a parent of a student at Lister Community School, you are already committed to our school.  Your current perspective is that of a parent: serving as a governor allows you to develop a new and different perspective, as you work in the best interests of the whole school community.  Please note that serving as a school governor is not the same as being part of the school PTA (Parent Teacher Association), which is a different role altogether.  This is a voluntary role, for which you will not be paid.

Being a school governor will provide you with the opportunity to further develop your leadership and strategic skills.  Teamwork, influencing skills and the ability to negotiate and compromise are key.  All applicants need to be dedicated to playing a part in improving education, but do not need any particular prior experience.
