Ash Wednesday - Woodward Academy 2021
Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent in the Christian calendar, as individuals participate in reflection and spiritual disciplines in preparation for Easter. Ashes are marked on the forehead as a sign of mortality, repentance, and purification.
This year, we will participate in Ash Wednesday in a safe, physically-distanced manner while still coming together as a community. Chaplain K will create small squares of burlap with ashes marked in the sign of a cross. Each square will be blessed as a symbol of the mark usually borne by each person on this date. Over time, the ashes will fade from the square and the cloth will remain, a symbol of renewal and forgiveness. You are welcome to utilize these squares as a part of our virtual Ash Wednesday service or in a personal time of prayer.
In order to participate:
-Complete the google form indicating how you would like to receive the burlap squares with the sign of the cross for your family (picking them up the morning of 2/17 or mailed to your home)
-You are more than welcome to join us from 12-12:20PM for our virtual Ash Wednesday service. The Zoom link will be sent out the morning of 2/17 to those who register using this form. All are welcome!
