Best Practices Exchange 2022: Call for Proposals
"Community Approaches to Digital Initiatives"
Best Practices Exchange (BPE) 2022
September 26-28, 2022
Hosted by the Tennessee State Library and Archives in partnership with the Council of State Archivists (CoSA)

The Best Practices Exchange (BPE) Program Committee invites submissions of session proposals for the 2022 conference to be held at the Tennessee State Library and Archives on Monday, September 26, 2022 - Wednesday, September 28, 2022. The deadline for proposals is Friday, April 29, 2022 (midnight CST).

BPE is an “unconference” that focuses on the management and preservation of digital information through real-world experiences, including best practices and lessons learned. BPE is open to all, but is commonly attended by practitioners in government and university archives and libraries; educators and researchers in the fields of library science, information science, technology, archives, and records management; and product developers working to create systems for managing and preserving digital assets.

Informal, conversational sessions give presenters and attendees alike a unique opportunity to meet, experience, and collaborate with other colleagues seeking to address a wide array of digital challenges. Each session typically features short presentations, with at least half of each session devoted to discussion between presenters and attendees. Attendees and presenters should be prepared to share their own experiences, successes, failures, and lessons learned. The aim is to provide information about actionable approaches that address topics of interest which attendees can take to their own institutions and try for themselves.

We encourage topics about community approaches to digital initiatives, but all topics are welcome. Noted topics of interest this year include, but are not limited to:

Advocacy for digital preservation
Collaborations and partnerships
Community-focused digital projects
Community of practice
Crowdsourcing
Digital access and accessibility
Digital preservation
Email archiving
Ethics and digital archives
Inclusion and equity initiatives
Linked data
Web and social media archiving

Sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes blocks, with at least 20-25 minutes of that time dedicated to questions and answers. Proposals may be submitted individually for shorter presentations or for a full session with multiple speakers. Shorter proposed presentations may be combined with others by the Program Committee.  Proposals for panel discussions, "Birds of a Feather" (informal discussion groups around a shared interest), or mini-workshops are also welcome.
