2022 Hemophilia Council of California VIRTUAL Future Leader Application

We're looking for passionate young people to become bleeding disorders champions! Join us for the Hemophilia Council of California’s (HCC) Future Leaders Program to learn how to effectively advocate and raise your voice on behalf of yourself and your community in all aspects of life. This hybrid program takes place partly virtual with a webinar series to prepare you for Legislative Day on May 20th.  Afterwards, we will have a summer in person overnight event- date and location TBD- where you can meet and socialize in person while learning how to leverage your new advocacy skills in daily life situations, such as school, the doctor's office or on the phone with an insurer.

Also included in the Future Leaders Program is a pre-Virtual Legislative Day webinar to prepare you on the specifics of the issues for Legislative Day followed by a practice group session.  Virtual Legislative Day will include 3 - 5 virtual meetings with your state legislators or their legislative staff.

Requirements to apply: You must be a high school student, have a bleeding disorder or be the sibling or child of someone with a bleeding disorder, and commit to all sessions in the program plus conference call (s) or online meeting(s) with legislators or legislative staff on Legislative Day.

Deadline to apply:

In this program you'll learn about...

● Effectively telling your story to legislators, health care providers, friends, and others about living with a bleeding disorder or supporting a family member or friend with a bleeding disorder.
● Advocating for yourself, siblings, family members and others.
● Developing leadership skills.
● How California and the National government works and about the programs that support people with bleeding disorders throughout the state.

Plus you'll meet other young people from across the state who want their voices heard.
