Digital Student Liaison Application
The Academic Innovation and Distance Education Office at BHCC seeks to hire Digital Student Liaisons (DSL) to empower their fellow students in using BHCC’s digital tools.

Compensation is $17/hour with a maximum of 8 hours per week. The schedule and the number of hours vary week to week.

In order to apply to be a Digital Student Liaison (DSL), students must:
- Be in good academic standing and be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student
- Confident in their knowledge and skills in navigating Moodle, Webex, and other technology tools
- Can be a Digital Student Liaison for at least two semesters (Spring and Fall semesters 2023)
- Must work be able to work on campus in room E230 , the Innovations Lab

A Digital Student Liaison is someone who empowers their fellow students in using BHCC digital tools in order to be successful while at BHCC.  Digital Student Liaisons’ work will involve these four services. More services could develop overtime as the Digital Student Liaison program matures.

1- Open BHCC  Student Digital Tools Office Hours: Designated hours throughout the week, BHCC students will be able to drop in to the AIDE Lab and talk directly to Digital Student Liaison.

2- Student Trainers:  Digital Student Liaisons will co-create with AIDE staff a student focused introduction to BHCC digital tools workshop, and provide this training workshop to other BHCC student leader groups. This way more BHCC student leaders are confident and knowledgeable in engaging with BHCC digital tools. These training workshops could also be integrated within the BHCC Orientation process and could also be provided to co-curricular academic support staff. Digital Student Liaisons will facilitate this workshop (s).

3- Divisional Student Support: Digital Student Liaisons will respond to student needs coordinated through Divisional Deans and Assistant Deans.

4-  Resource Creation/Content Development: Much like being a Student Trainer, DSL will help revise and create content that is used to help the BHCC community in using BHCC Digital Tools. DSLs will help keep the Student Resource Center up to date and useful for students, and will respond to students via email.

At no point will Digital Student Liaisons be asking for their peer BHCC personal information or seeing academic grades, etc. Nor will Digital Student Liaisons have access to any admin settings in Moodle or other places where student academic records are held. At most, BHCC students working with Digital Student Liaisons will share their screens with Digital Student Liaisons and together they will find solutions to the issue at hand and/ or will navigate BHCC digital tools together.

Being a Digital Student Liaison is a rewarding experience.  As part of the AIDE team, DSLs will have the opportunity to develop and enhance their communication and problem solving skills and empower their fellow BHCC students in using digital tools.  DSLs will have the chance to learn about their own strengths and weaknesses while gaining valuable skills through their experiences with AIDE. There are a few basic expectations in being a Digital Student Liaison. These expectations are essential for meeting your peers where they are at and empowering them in learning how to use BHCC digital tools.

These expectations include:
- the ability to listen and emphatically discuss questions related to student academic experiences
- a positive attitude
- proactive communication with the AIDE staff
