Audition Contract

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

We are so happy that your son/daughter has elected to audition for our production of Peter/Wendy. Being a company member is a huge commitment in time and philosophy. Please read the following statement and sign and return the bottom portion. If put in the company, all rehearsals are required and absence exceptions are made only in instances of extreme family emergencies, or in cases of severe illness of the student and only when the director has been contacted directly in advance and has given approval. Auditioning for any production is a risk and in no way guarantees a position.

Some of the many considerations for placement are:

Attitude/ Behavior

Ability to work as team/ensemble

Focus

Schedule conflicts

Movement & Voice

Following company procedures

Ensemble considerations

Commitment to the program

Following/ taking direction

Past performance

Academic performance (UIL eligibility)

Please understand that the final decision of company selection is the director’s, who function as the professionals in the educational theatre setting. These considerations may seem subjective; that is the nature of the process. Attempts to protest decisions will never result in changing of casting assignments and is considered inappropriate behavior.

The student may make an appointment for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY with the Director up to one week following the posting of the cast and crew list to receive a critique and suggestions for improvement. One week following the posting is the deadline for scheduling conferences. Casting will not be discussed after that point. Conferences will last a maximum of five minutes. The director will not justify choices or discuss another student’s performance in the conference; the director can only discuss with the student how (s)he can improve for future auditions. Parents may contact the directors with questions about the program but may not contact the directors about casting decisions. Professional and sportsmanlike attitude and behavior is expected of students at all times.

Unfortunately, not all students can be cast or placed on crew. The parent/guardian plays an important role in teaching the child to behave in a professional manner; please model a positive attitude regarding the audition process, and treat every audition opportunity, regardless of outcome, as an educational opportunity. Please encourage your son/daughter to behave in a professional manner at all times.

As a Fine Arts Parent/Guardian it is urged that you will encourage your child to view a production from a company/ensemble standpoint rather than a standpoint of individual gain. Please keep the top portion of this form for future reference, and return the signature page of this form prior to participating in auditions.

We have read and understand the approach to take in order to audition/ interview for a cast/crew position. We understand that this requires professional conduct regardless of outcome, and that auditioning in no way guarantees participation.
