GW Community Feedback: U.S. Department of Education’s Proposed Title IX Regulation Changes

In June 2022, the U.S. Department of Education released proposed changes to the Title IX regulations.  Read the Department’s announcement and review the proposed changes. Watch a webinar offered by the Title IX Office outlining the major provisions of the proposed regulations.

While the final regulations may not exactly mirror the proposed regulations, it is likely that much of the proposed provisions will make it into the final rule. In addition, while many of the final provisions will likely be mandatory, some provisions may provide colleges and universities some discretion on how to shape their Title IX policy and procedures.

What is unknown once the final regulations are announced is how soon the Department’s new policy will take effect and the university may not have time to gather community feedback between final rule and implementation.  Therefore, GW is actively seeking your insight now to help inform the university's future policy development.

Note: GW’s Title IX Sexual Harassment and Related Conduct Policy remains in effect. Until the new U.S. Department of Education Title IX policy is approved, GW is required to comply with the Title IX policy last updated in May 2020. GW's current Title IX Sexual Harassment and Related Conduct Policy and supportive resources are available to those impacted by sexual harassment.
