Mental Health Survey
Despite mental health problems being more prevalent than the combination of lung disease, heart disease, and cancer, people with mental illness (PWMI) are often mistreated due to inequities perpetrated by societal institutions. People are afraid of what they do not know, and most of the ideas about mental illness come from the media, not health experts. According to the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), the top five misunderstood mental health conditions are: obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, dual diagnosis, depression and schizophrenia/psychosis.
