Join an international short film workshop where films are made with fellow filmmakers from script to the silver screen in just a few days.

22.2. 18:00 Kino warm up screening (Short films from past kinos to get in the mood!)
23.2. 10:00 Kino begins with a project meeting. Everyone presents themselves and those who have film ideas can pitch and we form film crews. FILMMAKING begins right after the project meeting

25.2. 16:00 Deliver your film
25.2. Last minute filmmaking. 17:00 Final screening
Kino starts with a warm-up film screening where we screen some kino jewels from the past. The workshop begins with a project meeting. During the first day everybody introduces themselves, and people with project ideas present their plans and tell others what they need to accomplish their film. After that people start forming groups independently and start making films!

WHAT IS VASTARANNAN KINO
Vastarannan Kino (Kino on the other shore) is open for everyone interested in filmmaking. Whether you’re a professional filmmaker, student, hobbyist or a newcomer, everyone is welcome! We especially encourage people from different art fields to join us and offer their fresh perspective on film making!
We aim to have as diverse a group of participants an you can participate in any role in the film crew. Come as a director, cinematographer, actor, editor, 2nd unit grip, sound designer, muse, executive producer… Share your skills or challenge yourself with something new!
Vastarannan Kino is a Kino cell in Finland which started in 2015. We organize international Kino Kabaret workshops in the city of Rovaniemi and this upcoming kino in February 2024 will be our 6th event. We collaborate with the University of Lapland Faculty of Art and Design and with an audiovisual production company Flatlight and event space Y_North.
Vastarannan Kino is a part of the global Kino film-making movement that advocates the production of short-films on little to no budget, using small crews, and non-competitive collaboration. KINO LAB
Kino lab i.e. our working space is located in event space and studio Y_North. You can work and also film in the space and there is a sauna! You’ll also have access to some of the Lapland university’s sound and lighting equipment.
ACCOMMODATION
Unfortunately we can't offer you accommodation this time, so you have to book and pay for it yourself. This winter has been amazing, and that means that tourism is up and on a record-breaking level. So if you still don't have a place to stay during kino, reserve it NOW! You might still find some Airbnbs near our Kino lab.

Please wait for a confirmation e-mail after filling the application form.
To ensure your place in the workshop you need to pay a participation fee of 15€ (10€ for the students and unemployed), upon e-mail confirmation. If the fee has not been paid by the due date, this counts as a cancellation of your participation. If you pay and later cancel your participation, 50% of the price will be given back to you.
Vastarannan Kino reserves the rights to make changes to the content of this workshop.
