The IOP is working with media organizations that will be covering the RNC and DNC political convention in the summer of 2024 to provide short-term internship opportunities for students. A journalism background is not required for the short-term internships.
What is required is a "can-do" attitude and willingness to work as a runner doing a variety of sometimes menial tasks necessary for the media organizations and their reporters to cover the political conventions.
Students will receive a $500 stipend from the IOP for interning at one convention and a $1,000 stipend for interning at both conventions. The IOP will be providing housing on campus in August for students in Chicago. Students selected to intern in Milwaukee will be responsible for finding their own housing.
The participating media organizations may include the following: ABC News, CNN, The New York Times, and the USA Today. The IOP cannot guarantee the selection of students by any of these news organizations.
