Our Lady of the Assumption Parish CONFIRMATION 2024
Dear Parents,

Our Lady of the Assumption Parish (OLA) will be celebrating Confirmations at OLA Church at 11am on the 12th of Sep, 2024. All children in Year 6 who have received the Sacraments of:

     - Baptism
     - Reconciliation, and
     - Holy Communion,

are eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please contact Fr Michael ASAP if your child has not received the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, or Holy Communion. Listed below are the parish requirements regarding enrolment and preparation for Confirmation.

A SPONSOR
As far as possible each child should have a sponsor. The role of a sponsor is to help your child to be a true witness of Christ. A sponsor is to help your child faithfully fulfil their Christian duties for which they are strengthened and equipped in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Therefore, a sponsor must be a faithful and practicing Catholic themselves. A person from an eastern Orthodox Church may act as a sponsor together with a Catholic. It is fitting for your child's Baptismal sponsor to also serve as their Confirmation sponsor. The sponsor's role is supportive of the parents' role. Therefore, parents cannot serve as sponsor for their own child.

PARENT INFORMATION ZOOM MEETING - PARENTS ONLY
Wednesday 7 Aug at 7:00 pm

A link will be sent to the email you provide on this enrolment form to join the Zoom Meeting. Please join the Zoom 5 minutes before the scheduled start, have your video on, surname displayed and sound on mute.

PREPARATION SESSIONS
Candidates will be required to complete one section of the Confirmation Workbook, for four weeks, with their parents. Candidates from the parish must hand in their Confirmation Workbooks to the parish Catechist or Fr Michael at the pre-Confirmation practice session.

SUNDAY CATECHESIS
Our experienced parish catechist, Mrs Jill Hohnen, will be providing the opportunity for Confirmation lessons at 10am on Sunday mornings to help the children with their workbooks and in understanding the content. I highly recommend taking advantage of this assistance.

ATTENDING SUNDAY MASS
Candidates, their Catholic parent/s, and sponsors, are required to attend Sunday Mass. (The "Vigil Mass" on Saturday evening is also considered a Sunday Mass.) Candidates will be provided with a form as a record of attendance, at least of the 5 Sunday Masses leading up to Confirmation. Please, ask the Parish Priest, or Mrs Jill Hohnen, to sign this form at the conclusion of each Mass. All Candidates are required to return this form to Fr. Michael or Jill Hohnen by Thursday 12 Sep.

If you are going on holidays, please take care to consider where you will attend Sunday Mass. Weekday Masses do not substitute for keeping the Lord's Day Holy by attending Sunday Mass.

If your child is unable to attend because of illness, simply note this on the attendance form. In this circumstance it is good to make an effort, according to the circumstances, to say some prayers at home, such as the Rosary, or follow a Mass online.

REHEARSAL
All candidates will have the opportunity to rehearse at 3.30pm on Fri 12 Sep at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
