INTO THE WOODS AUDITIONS

There is a LOT of information in this packet, and even more to come after auditions. Please take the time to read through this and to ask questions if you have any. Please contact Megan Wean Sears (Producer) @ drama@epiphanydayton.org.

On behalf of the Epiphany Players Drama Ministry, we would like to welcome you to our 33rd summer musical!  This year, we are proud to present Into the Woods

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for this year’s production.  At Epiphany, we use our summer musicals to pursue the following ministry goals:

1. To reach out to our surrounding community in a unique way.

2. To provide a special opportunity for Christian fellowship, as well as relationship-building among participants, whether they are members of Epiphany’s community of faith, or guest artists from the community.

3. To provide families a unique opportunity to creatively spend time together.

4. To offer a ministry that connects generations and families.

5. To use popular culture to foster creative ways for the Gospel to be proclaimed.

6. To celebrate God’s gifts of music and drama by sharing our talents with others.

To those ends, we welcome both the Epiphany Lutheran Church community and guests of all ages and other denominations to become involved in all aspects of our musical production.  Together, we will help honor Epiphany’s mission: “To love Jesus by serving others.”

We encourage an atmosphere of Christian love, respect, and caring to support each other so that the best possible results can be achieved.  We strive for excellence by using the gifts that God has given us and allowing the directors to develop skills and talents.

Please read through the rest of this packet for additional information on this year’s production of Into the Woods.

Peace,

Julie Reuning-Scherer, Senior Pastor

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “LIST ALL CONFLICTS”:  As this production will encompass many people and areas of development, we ask that you prioritize your time to be at all scheduled rehearsals as provided to you. We ask that you list any conflict that you might potentially have prior to auditions so that casting can be done based on how much you might miss.  Please include the day AND the time.  We ask that there be no conflicts after July 1. (Please note that large conflicts will most likely not be possible.  Some MAY be considered at the director's discretion.  Please reach out to the director if you have questions regarding conflicts.)

MANDATORY CAST MEETING (with a parent if under 18):  There will be a mandatory cast meeting in the Far Hills Sanctuary at Epiphany Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 29 from 5:30-6:30.  Please note that this meeting will be followed by rehearsal from 6:30-10:00.

WHAT IS INTO THE WOODS ABOUT?

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic.  The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk.  When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse.  Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
