MPP Tom Rakocevic has introduced a Bill to officially recognize Orthodox Christian Week in Ontario. If passed, with your support, Orthodox Christian Week will commence every Orthodox Easter Sunday.
Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS Orthodox Easter Sunday, which commemorates the resurrection of
Jesus Christ, is the most significant holy day in the Orthodox Christian
Calendar; and,
WHEREAS The Orthodox Christian Church has hundreds of millions of
followers across the world, and Orthodox Christians have settled here for
generations and established active churches and cultural associations which add
to the diverse cultural fabric of our province; and,
WHEREAS Faith is a central part of many people’s culture and identity.
Proclaiming Orthodox Christian Week recognizes and celebrates the unique faith,
culture, traditions and history of Orthodox Christians in Ontario and across
the world;
We the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as
follows:
The seven-day period
in each year starting on Orthodox Easter Sunday is proclaimed as Orthodox
Christian Week in Ontario.
