10 Million Participation Campaign to Stop the Oppression of Human Rights

Dear Citizens of the World,

We are a family of peace working for peace and human rights.
Currently, peace-loving citizens are suffering due to the government-led oppression of human rights, and religion in South Korea.

In February, the South Korean government began targeting and clamping down on a religious organization named Shincheonji Church of Jesus (hereinafter referred to as Shincheonji) as public sentiments about the government’s failure to enforce earlier control measures grew more negative. The government declared that Shincheonji was the origin of the outbreak because a large number of confirmed cases came from its Branch Church in Daegu City. The President and other government officials framed the situation as if Shincheonji had created and spread the COVID-19 virus. The media circulated these fabricated stories day after day, and Shincheonji was painted as an enemy of the public. Fake news that spread from this “witch hunt” has further victimized and oppressed Shincheonji, a minority group with less power and influence.
What followed were discrimination and persecution, resulting in two deaths of female members and 6,000 cases of human rights violations that are ongoing today. Because of their religious affiliations with Shincheonji, members were faced with assault and verbal abuse by their own families, forced to resign from their jobs, denied treatment by hospitals, and rejected by facilities. In addition, 88-year old Chairman Lee of Shincheonji and five other Shincheonji leaders were arrested on charges of violating the Infectious Disease Prevention Act despite the fact that Shincheonji did not intentionally spread the COVID-19 virus.
Nevertheless, 4,000 recovered members of Shincheonji had pledged to donate their convalescent plasma for the development of a COVID-19 treatment and have been donating since July 13th.
Alongside these unfortunate happenings in South Korea, we trust that by supporting this initiative, we can set as an example and voice out the growing number of human rights violations everyday around the world. Hence, we must all collectively work to resolve the issues surrounding COVID-19 rather than single out an entity or an individual to take full responsibility for the virus. Using COVID-19 as a tool to oppress minority groups would be wrong in every country in the world. Such should be the same in South Korea. This is why the international community must proclaim in one voice, “Stop the Acts of Oppression.”
Please join the campaign to stop human rights violations. Your precious words will strengthen those who are oppressed and will deter acts of oppression by the South Korean government.
We will make known these human rights violations to the international community. If more than 100,000 signatures are gathered for this campaign, we will submit our voices to the UN and other major international organizations. If more than 10 million are gathered, we will produce a booklet and distribute it to major institutions, women's organizations, schools and media around the world so that such acts of oppression will not occur again. We sincerely ask for your participation.
