Learn to Skate for Adults - July/August 2022
This session will run from Tuesday, July 26 through Tuesday, August 30.

For ages 16+. Classes are 45 minutes long and geared towards those who are new to roller skating or returning after an extended break.

What to expect:

The first class starts off-skates, so you can understand the basics of posture, skating stance and weight transfer without the added distraction of wheels on your feet! When we put our skates on for the second half of class, you'll already know how to stand safely, how to lower your centre of gravity to steady yourself, and the mechanics of propelling yourself.

Over the remaining sessions, we'll continue to work on your balance, developing a steady stride and glide, and how to come to a safe and unassisted stop. We will also introduce the skills needed to navigate a variety of skating surfaces, how to handle inclines, steps and other obstacles.

While safety equipment isn't required for our indoor classes, it can really help with confidence and a sense of security, especially for beginners. Your instructor will be wearing knee pads and wrist guards. If you don't have your own safety gear, we have some available for hire.

The cost is $72 for a six-week block. Skates and/or protective gear available to hire for an additional fee.
Please pay via bank transfer to 01-0071-0532987-00 prior to the start of the course. Use ADULT LTS as a reference.

About your trainer:
Kirsten Slade has been roller skating for over 40 years. As a teenager, she was a competitive speed skater. While living in Austin Texas, Kirsten learned how to play roller derby with the women who invented the modern sport of flat-track roller derby, Texas Rollergirls (TXRG). In addition to playing flat- and banked-track roller derby, Kirsten managed TXRG’s recreational roller derby program and was a trainer for TXRG's Junior Derby program. Now retired from roller derby, Kirsten is on the coaching staff for Let's Roll Coaching, Kapiti Coast Derby Collective, and co-owns Seaside Skates. Kirsten loves sharing her passion for skating with others and especially enjoys working with beginners.

I am physically fit to attend and partake in this class. Let's Roll Coaching recommends the use of personal protective equipment during skating activities. Wearing protective equipment will greatly reduce the chance of injury due to a fall or collision. Let's Roll Coaching accepts no responsibility for injury caused by a fall/collision which would have otherwise not occurred if protective equipment had been worn. I will not hold Let's Roll Coaching or any of its agents or partners liable in any way if I am injured during this class. Please type your full legal name to sign. *
