The Department of Art Practice is looking for STUDENT ARTISTS to volunteer in the
5 MINUTE PORTRAITS booth at Caltopia 2019 on August 25th & 26th.

ALL VOLUNTEER ARTISTS GET A FREE SKETCHBOOK & USEFUL ART SUPPLIES!

This is an opportunity to have a laugh while practicing your art skills in public, meeting your artist peers and fans, and promoting your artwork via social media.

Caltopia, which will take place on Sunday, August 25th and Monday, August 26th at the Recreational Sports Facility on campus, attracts 30,000 visitors: www.caltopia.berkeley.edu

At the Department of Art Practice booth, visitors get to take home an original portrait drawn in 5 minutes by one of our student artists. In years past this has been one of the most popular and fun things happening at Caltopia.

You can use any media or style: realistic portraiture – anime – collage – abstract expressionism – absurd pranks – it’s your call! Five minutes isn’t long enough to create a masterpiece – the point is to express yourself while interacting with your subject and enjoy the process.

We will provide basic white paper to draw on and some simple drawing supplies. You should provide any other supplies you need (cool if you bring something unique!).

Each participant will be asked to do one or two 2-hour shifts. This means you will do up to 24 portraits. We are asking for volunteers, and we will say “thank you” with a free sketchbook and some useful art supplies (we’ve checked in with our instructors to see what’s useful for classes)!

You can hand out anything to promote yourself (i.e. your Instagram name, etc.). The organizers of Caltopia, who have an active social media campaign always make this project highly visible!
