Mālama 'Āina Field School Summer 2021 Application
Aloha! This application is for students currently in the 7th through 9th grade who are interested in participating in the Mālama 'Āina Field School hybrid program. Preference will be given to those currently residing within the Wai'anae moku, district. This modified program will be held over the course of 5 weeks from June 14 - July 16, 2021 and will run as a hybrid program conducting online learning/lessons four times a week and huaka'i (field trips) to approved sites once a week. Huaka'i will be based in West O'ahu and include service work, learning, and fun focusing on caring for the 'āina that takes care of us. Transportation to and from a designated site will be provided if 'ohana are unable to transport their children to the huaka'i sites. Daily instruction will occur Monday to Friday from 8:30am-12:30pm on online days and 8:30am-3:00pm on huakaʻi days, asynchronous work will also be assigned.

**Eligible Wai'anae moku students can earn a high school Elective Science credit at Kamaile Academy or Wai'anae High School upon successful completion of course requirements. Eligible students for the high school Elective Science credit are those who are already enrolled/registered to attend Kamaile Academy or Wai'anae High School next school year. This is a high school credit so students have to be entering 9th grade or already be in high school next school year (SY 21-22) to be eligible for this credit.**

Program Dates: June 14 - July 16, 2021
Hō'ike: July 16, 2021 8:30am-12:30pm (Mandatory for all students, may be conducted in-person)

General Program Schedule (Subject To Change):
-Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays (8:30am-12:30pm): Online learning
-Tuesdays or Thursdays (8:30am-3:00pm): Huaka'i to approved sites
*Half of the group will go on the huaka'i on Tuesdays while the other half does asynchronous work online. The group will switch on Thursdays.

Each student in the range of 7th to 9th grade is required to complete this application. Please answer ALL sections/questions as best you can. The application deadline is May 28, 2021 (or until program is filled). We will accept qualified applications as they come in so it's best to apply early. There is a $50 program fee per student due after acceptance with the possibility of partial scholarship based on financial need. There will be a mandatory parent-student online orientation meeting before the start of the program to overview program schedule, participant expectations, and answer any questions you might have.
