We are excited that you have chosen to participate in the 2023 Fayette County Fair Bucket Calf Show. The project was started to expose youth to the basic care and responsibility of caring for a calf.

Please complete a separate form for each exhibitor.

Open to Fayette County youth ages 4 thru 2nd grade as of registration deadline May 12, 2023. Exhibitor must reside and/or be enrolled in school in Fayette County.

Participants must watch all 3 Bucket Calf Project Videos posted on the FCF Bucket Calf Facebook page. There will be one video a month posted on the first day of the month, guardian and child must watch the video and send in code word from video. The code word will need to be turned in via email by the 8th day of the month to fcfbucketcalf@gmail.com. Dates are as follow video 1 (post date is June 1st code word has to be turned in by midnight June 8th. Topic of video will be “I have a bucket calf, now what?”), video 2 (post date is July 1st code word must be turned in by midnight July 8th. Topic of video will be “General health awareness”.) and video 3 (post date is August 1st code word must be turned in by midnight August 8th. Topic of video will be “Final preparation for the show”.). The child will be ineligible for the show if code word is not submitted to the email address listed above by the deadline.

Participants must be able to halter-break and lead the calf. (The committee has the right to remove any family member, child or animal for unruly or dangerous behavior.)

Participants must attend the mandatory showmanship clinic with the calf on August 20, 2023 in order to show at the Fayette County Fair. (The showmanship clinic does not count towards the 3 videos.)

We will have two age categories, PeeWees ages 4 & 5 and Minis ages 6 thru 2nd grade as of registration deadline May 12, 2023. We will accept 15 calves in each age category. We will waitlist anything beyond that.

Project calf must be born between April 1, 2023 and May 31, 2023.

All bucket calves are required to be vaccinated by July 15, 2023 by a licensed veterinarian or proof must be given showing home vaccination. All bull calves are required to be castrated by July 15, 2023 by a licensed veterinarian or proof must be given showing home castration.

Calf must be bottle fed. No nurse calves.

Project calves can be any gender/breed.

If a calf becomes ill and/or dies, a replacement calf can be purchased if it is born before July 8, 2023. You must first contact the committee stating loss. If the loss occurs after July 31, 2023 you may not replace the calf, and the child will be ineligible for the show.

$30.00 entry fee will be collected on August 20, 2023 at the Showmanship Clinic. Payment may be made in the form of cash, check, or card. Checks made payable to Fayette County Fair w/ memo line stating Bucket Calf.

This entry form (Google form) will be due by the registration deadline, May 12, 2023.

Participants are required to submit 5 progress photos each month, by midnight on the last day of June, July and August. If these photos are not received by the deadline, the child will be ineligible to show at the Fayette County Fair.

Participants will be required to wear proper show attire during the showmanship clinic as well as the show. Proper show attire includes pants, closed toe shoes, and the FCF Bucket Calf Project shirt provided.
