Distance Learning Procedures: The University of Massachusetts Lowell reserves the right to decline admittance to students on the basis of the student's academic ability. Eligibility: Be in their junior or senior year of high school, have a GPA of a 2.5 or higher, be a Massachusetts resident, demonstrate the ability to benefit from university-level work and should be recommended by their high school principals, teachers or guidance counselors. Courses: Students are restricted to 1 course per semester as well as entry level courses. Exceptions to entry level classes will be made if the student has already completed prerequisites during a previous semester in the Distance Learning Program. Grades: Approved courses will be assigned letter grades by the university. These reports will be sent to the high school at the end of the semester. All students MUST sign the Grade Release Form for the grades to be released to the high school at the end of the semester. Add/Drop: Distance Learning Students are responsible for completing the appropriate paperwork during the designated time frame (drop period). Students should notify their high school guidance counselor if they are withdrawing/and or adding a course, and submit proper forms to the Coordinator of Distance Learning Program at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The consequences of not withdrawing from a college course "officially" may be detrimental to the student, as they will receive a failing grade that will affect their GPA and academic future as it will be reflected on their official university transcript. Other: Seniors who participate in the Distance Learning Program must submit an application for admission to the university for the fall semester in order to receive the tuition benefit for the distance course. The application for Admissions will be free and an application fee waiver will be shared with your student during class.
