Students in ENGL 330.01 (Interdisciplinary Writing) and ESRM 335 (The Beach) will participate in CI's 7th Annual Arts Under the Stars.

This collaborative, interdisciplinary event invites students, faculty, and other members of the campus community to contribute scholarly and creative projects centered on a shared them. This year's Arts Under the Stars performances will take place on Friday May 4 and Saturday, May 5, 6:30-9:30pm.

The theme for this year's event is Empathy, which we will explore through a project entitled "The California Coast: In Memoriam."

In our project, we will take a critical look at the consequences of both current and proposed practices and policies on offshore oil drilling off the coast of California. Our intention is to engage in an imaginative exploration that evokes empathy for the losses incurred by unfettered exploration of a finite resource, offshore oil.

This project emerges from an ongoing scholarly and creative collaboration between the faculty of these courses, Dr. Kiki Patsch (Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Resource Management) and Dr. Stacey Anderson (Assistant Professor of English) examining multiple disciplinary lenses through which the sandy beach environment can be perceived and valued.

Students may participate in a variety of ways. Participation is required and will be worth 10% of your final course grade.

Students may participate either remotely or in person. Attending the performances themselves is encouraged but not required.
